EGYPTIAN FOOTBALL PLAYING DOG: 2008, 6 x 7 x 4, porcelain, under glaze, luster Many mythologies have creation myths in which there was a time when all creatures, animal and man, co-existed with understanding and respect and without suffering. At some point mankind angers the powerful forces, and the dream world is damaged beyond reclaiming. A friend told me this story as an example of Indian mythology. I have not been able to find documentation to support it; however, it is a really good story, and I am choosing to use it. In this myth, as punishment, the Great Spirit creates a chasm between animal and man forcing them apart. As the chasm widens, the dog looks back toward man. Three times it looks back as the chasm widens. The instant just before the chasm is too wide to vault the dog turns and makes the leap back to man. The dog, with its love and devotion, can help mankind realign itself with the Venus, our earth, and all its elements.
